Election 2018/9:
What does it mean for Asia?
In 2018 and 2019, for Asean, national elections are expected to take place in Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia. Elsewhere in Asia, there will also be national elections in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan and local elections in Taiwan and Bhutan.
Around the world we have witnessed growth of populist politics whether it's the UK's Brexit, Spain's Catalan independence or the USA's Donald Trump. Democracy is clearly under huge pressure. The political landscape is being redrawn everywhere, at least it seems.
Asia News Network, an alliance of 24 leading media in 20 Asian countries, will be keeping a close watch on political development in Asia, especially the national elections through our member media, website, e-newsletter and conferences with insightful analyses and commentaries (www.asianews.network).
As part of a series of ANN's regional activities and the launching of ANN website, we are excited to organize an international symposium on "Election Year 2018/9: What does it mean for Asia?" on March 16, 2018 at Renaissance Hotel Rajprasong Road, Bangkok from 9.15-15.00 hrs.
The symposium will provide an opportunity for the audience to assess the outcome of these elections through eyes of the experts in wake of ideological shifts, geo politics, technology and business interests and, of course, the personalities and influences of political leaders of these respective countries.
The 250 audience will comprise invited diplomats, business leaders, academics, NGOs, and the millennia generation.
