The Big Bad Wolf book sale comes to Bangkok with big discounts on English language books
Big Bad Wolf, the world’s greatest book sale held every year in Malaysia since 2009, is coming to Bangkok for the first time and will be held at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani, from 12 to 21 August 2016.
More than 1.5 million books, all new and covering all categories, will be on sale to the public at heavily discounted prices that can represent savings of between 60 and 80 percent on the usual cover price.
The books are all in the English language, the objective being to help raise up the standard of English for the Thai people by offering them quality books at a good price.
“We want to encourage more Thai people, adults and children alike, to read English language books and to improve their English language skills,” says Surachet Worawnongwasu, managing director of Ready2Read Co Ltd, the company that is bringing the Malaysia-based Big Bad Wolf book sale to Thailand.
“Offering these books at such low prices means that anyone will be able to afford a good quality book to take home and enjoy.”
Categories include books for children and young adults, fiction of all kinds, biographies, history, reference books, and travel guides.
Mr Surachet says that 300,000 people are predicted to attend the Big Bad Wolf sale, and the attendance is expected to be so high that the weekend of the event, 13-14 August, will be a non-stop 24-hour sale.
The remainder of the event is open from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. daily.
As part of its corporate and social responsibilities programme, the event will hold a “Red Readerhood” book donation drive that will collect books for free distribution to people in the provinces who have low literacy rates and no ready access to English language books.
Big Bad Wolf staged its first book sale at Dataran Hamodal, in Selangor, Malaysia, in 2009. The first event was a warehouse sale by remainder bookstore BookXcess, dealing in various genres from best sellers and children’s books through to specialist titles and deluxe coffee-table tomes.
The event was immediately successful, and nowadays the Big Bad Wolf, in association with BookXcess, travels from state to state each year before returning to the Klang Valley for the biggest sale.
This year also sees the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale making its debut in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Parent store BookXcess also sells discounted books online at www.bookxcessonline.comand ships internationally.
