Lions Club of Bangkok Silom, District 310D / ACTIVITY COMMUNITY SERVICE

The current generation have never witnessed a pandemic of such proportions, as we witness now.  Lives and economies all over the world have been devastated.  Thailand has managed to overcome the pandemic scare with minimal losses of lives.  People, and vast communities, have nonetheless, been affected.  At the cross hairs are those who depend on regular income for their livelihood.  This segment of the population needs our care and attention.

Lions Club of Bangkok Silom, District 310D is the only English-speaking club in Bangkok, and consists mostly of members of the Indian diaspora.  It is well recognized and warmly welcomed by fellow Lions for its activities and events.

Living true to the motto of “We Serve”, the Lions Club of Bangkok Silom, took steps to alleviate hardships and soothe difficult times.   On Sunday, June 21, 2020 Club President Lion Pawan Mishra and members distributed household necessities to 300 families at Wat Wachira Thammasathit Warawihan, Phra Khanong.  They were ably assisted by the Temple and the District authorities

Lion members, led by the President Mr. Pawan Kumar Mishra, marched in and brought smiles to many faces, and pledged to continue to do as and when needed.

As Khalil Gibran said, “It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked, through understanding.  And to the open-handed the search for one who shall receive is joy greater than giving.”

Principles to follow when making donations:-

1. Do not make eye contact with the receiver, Keep your eyes lowered.

2. Wear a smile (if not inappropriate)

3. Keep hands folded as and when possible

4. Keep your hands below the item that you are donating, not above.  Like asking the receiver to accept, and not like you are giving.

We also thank all our benevolent donors who - without hesitation - dipped deep into their pockets to further this cause.  There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.
